Item Description

A large, old-time and rare combination specimen from Tsumeb. Gemmy, lustrous, sharply terminated, yellow mimetite crystals to 1.0 cm are richly scattered on the undulating dense sulfide matrix covered with adamantine luster, crackly, blocky cerussite crystals and a very rich coating of drusy, blue-green willemite. The coverage and isolation of the gem-like mimetite crystals on this pristine piece are rare qualities. The mimetite crystals of htis habit are not common.. Ex Brent Lockhart Collection. His label indicates that he bought the piece from the G.R. Collection (a Namibian family), and it was mined in 1917: consistent with the style of the matrix as first oxidation zone material. He bought the specimen in 2005 and paid $3500. Comes with a custom-made and engraved lucite base, valued at $125, for free. Specimens of this size and quality are normally reserved for the Gallery or customers, but I obtained this super piece in a large trade and we are just liquidating it here...so, good luck! This piece is from the old, upper oxidized levels of this renowned locale and is a rare style of mimetite for the sharp prismatic habit.
