Item Description

Berg Aukus is one of the most famous localities in the world for species like Smithsonite and Descloizite, but there are also some interesting Mimetites from this deposit as well. I have seen only a couple specimens of Mimetite from this great locality, and this piece is certainly good quality for the fact that it's very well-crystallized, at least for Berg Aukus. It features a coverage of hundreds of tiny, sharp, prismatic hexagonal crystals of a medium orange hue covering the underlying matrix. Very little damage to speak of, but it's a cool small cabinet display specimen from a well known locality. This is one of only a handful of pieces of this material that we've had to offer in the auctions, and comes with a classic label from Josef Vajdak / Pequa Rare Minerals, which immediately increases the value. You can read Joe's biography here: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1371. The label states that the piece was collected in the 1950s and states that this material is "rare in crystal form" from the locale.
