Mimetite (excellent locality piece)

Item Description

Fine mimetite from late 1970s finds at one of the world's top localities for the species - the Mount Bonnie Mine - is rare on the market. Sharp, textbook hexagonal, lustrous, translucent, yellowish-brown tabular prisms, to 8 mm, are aesthetically scattered on all four sides of the sculptural, mounded miniature gossan matrix. Some of the mimetites have a preferentially off-white frosting on the pinacoidal faces adding color and much character. Choice and classic mimetite from this small abandoned Cu-Pb-Zn-Au mine. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection with a faded The Collector label (Bill Larson). There is a January, 1979 date on the back of the label. $275 was NOT cheap in those days. And, more of this style have not been seen since, so it is a real collector's item for the species.
