Item Description

A fantastic specimen of Mimetite from Santa Eulalia featuring a rich coverage of sparkling, intense orange colored micro crystals on oxidized matrix. We've photographed the Mimetites with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality, and you can see they have lovely prismatic hexagonal form with steep pyramidal terminations and near water-clear transparency. There is a section of the Mimetites that has a light coating of virtually colorless Calcite, with a vitreous luster, but you have to rotate the piece in the light to really see it, otherwise it just blends in against the Mimetites. Gorgeous, high quality material, rarely seen on the market in this intense hue. It should be noted that when I looked at the piece with a loupe, there is a lighter yellow layer of Mimetite underneath some the orange crystals, which are more translucent/opaque. These are RARE on the market (I could only find one other example on mindat.org for comparison), and would make a fantastic addition to any Mexican mineral suite or a worldwide Mimetite collection. Valued $2,000.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#54 Mx), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
