Item Description

A very attractive miniature sized specimen of the famed Mimetites from the Guatomo Mine in Thailand that came out in the mid 1990s. This piece is filled with fine quality, sharp, very lustrous, soft golden-yellow colored, hexagonal crystals that show prominent skeletal / "hoppered" growth, creating some really gorgeous crystals which are sitting on oxidized matrix. The largest Mimetite measures 6 mm long and for the most part, I don't see any damage of note, except around the edges where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. It should be noted that this locality was referred to as "Hat Yai" for years, which is written on Kay's label. A wonderful piece of this now classic and hard to find material. Perfect for any fan of secondary ore minerals or species from the Apatite group. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13202). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
