Item Description
Tsumeb is the most prolific locality in the world and a true favorite of collectors. The sheer number of species (both rare and common) found there combined with their superb quality is unrivaled. Here we have a very attractive three-dimensional thumbnail of Mimetite featuring notably tapered, prismatic, narrow crystals measuring up to 2.1 cm which are intergrown to create a showy display piece. The color ranges from a golden-brown to a softer orange-yellow hue at the tips. Looking closely I don't see any major damage, there is one spot of incomplete growth near the top, but not true damage if you get my meaning. I love the fact that a couple of the crystals are actually doubly-terminated. If you collect thumbnails or Tsumeb, don't miss out on this one as it is really a different style than most Mimetites from this world-class locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9118). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Valued at $1750.
