Item Description
I don't know if this piece is specifically from the historic "Gem Pocket" of Mimetites that came out in 1971 but it looks like it could very well be from that famous discovery. If not, then it's very similar material in terms of quality. The piece is filled with some of the best quality Mimetite crystals you can find, not only from Tsumeb, but any world locality. There are crystals on this specimen that look like yellow pools of water clear perfection. The intense glassy external luster, along with the razor sharp faces, text book hexagonal prismatic form and TRANSPARENT clarity makes the piece about as good as it gets for the species, regardless of the size of the crystals. The unfortunate part is that the piece is so brilliant that it was hard to photograph, and the photos do no do it justice. Firstly, it looks more yellow in person than the photos might indicate, and you simply don't see the transparent beauty of some of the crystals because they are so reflective and bright. The largest crystal measures 1.0 cm, and if you look at the piece up close you'll have a great time viewing the smaller crystals with their superior luster and gemminess. There are a few TINY nicks here and there that I found with a loupe, and obviously the periphery is incomplete where it was removed from the pocket, but it's still in wonderful condition. Valued at $1,500 for superb gem quality crystals and overall appeal. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #2294).
