Item Description
This is an appealing toenail/miniature sized Mimetite specimen from this prestigious Mexican locale. The famous old Ojuela Mine is quite possibly the most iconic specimen-producing locality in the entire country. Nearly 150 mineral species have been reported from there, and it is best-known for its colorful secondary minerals. . This specimen hosts rich golden-yellow color, sparkling, resinous Mimetite aggregates in semi-spherical form which are free of matrix. The Mimetite groups are elongated, but not narrow prisms, nor are they complete "spheres", but somewhere in between. The largest aggregate measures 1.5 cm long. No major damage, but a few small contacted areas can be seen. We've seen plenty of green Mimetites from the Ojuela Mine in recent years, but the yellow material is older, and to my mind, less common than the green.
