Item Description

Mimetite is a fairly widespread and notably diverse secondary lead arsenate species, that has been found in many world localities in a variety of styles/habits. Here we have a wonderful and eye-catching small cabinet sized piece from the famed Ojuela Mine in Mexico. It's certainly a fine quality, showy, impressive display specimen from one of the most prestigious localities in Mexico. The famous old Ojuela Mine is one of the most iconic mineral producing localities in the country, and has given collectors some of the most beloved mineral specimens in the history of the hobby. This specimen is loaded with dozens of golden-yellow color Mimetite aggregates in semi-spherical form measuring up to 9 mm across on oxidized matrix. The Mimetite groups are elongated, but not narrow prisms, nor are they complete "spheres", but somewhere in between. There are some minor orange crystals of Wulfenite on the piece as well for a nice touch. No serious damage, but a tiny imperfections areas can be seen. We've seen plenty of green Mimetites from the Ojuela Mine, but the yellow material is older, and to my mind, less common than the green. Hard to find today, especially in a piece of this size. Priced at $2,800 in the inventory.
