Item Description

Mimetite is a diverse secondary ore mineral, found in many world localities in a variety of styles/habits. This piece is a fine quality, showy, impressive display specimen from one of the most prestigious localities in Mexico. The famous old Ojuela Mine is one of the most iconic mineral producing localities in the country, and has given collectors some of the most beloved mineral specimens in the history of the hobby. This small cabinet sized specimens is loaded with dozens of golden-yellow color Mimetite aggregates in semi-spherical form measuring up to 1.5 cm on oxidized matrix. The Mimetite groups are elongated, but not narrow prisms, nor are they complete "spheres", but somewhere in between. There are some small slender/elongated Mimetite crystals on the piece, along with one partial gemmy orange blade of Wulfenite. No serious damage, but a few contacted areas can be seen. We've seen plenty of green Mimetites from the Ojuela Mine, but the yellow material is older, and to my mind, less common than the green. Hard to find today, especially in a piece of this size. Priced at $2,400 in the inventory.
