A beautiful classic piece of the famous and revered Mimetites from Cobar in NSW, Australia. These iconic and fine quality specimens are very easy to recognize for their attractive form, color and beautiful displayability. This showy small cabinet display specimen features a rich coverage of hexagonal, thick, tabular, greenish-yellow (some or brownish from iron oxide) colored crystals of Mimetite measuring up to 1.1 cm sitting atop oxidized matrix. Most of the crystals are damage-free, though some of them are contacted, so the piece is not 100% pristine. These specimens are notably hard to find on market these days, especially in such showy and rich examples like this, so if you collect Mimetites or worldwide secondary ore minerals, don't pass this one up. Valued at $1,500. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
