Mimetite (classic 1969 find!)

Spherical aggregates of slightly translucent, golden yellow mimetite, to 7 mm in length, are aesthetically attached to thin membranes of matrix, giving the specimen an interesting sculptural form. The matrix appears to be the remnant of some unknown mineral species that is now gone, almost like - well, exactly like - a cast of a missing calcite ball perhaps. Note that this color is particularly YELLOW whereas most are an orange to burnt orange hue, making this the rarest color of the pocket. A ONCE IN A LIFETIME FIND, never repeated, since 1969. These remain classics, and unique specimens compared to others of the species. Quality today is determined by the saturation of color and the sparkliness of the lustrous surface (or not) - both features that are in top form, here. Note we have removed the base, glued to the bottom, seen in the video. From the Keith Williams Collection of miniatures and small cabinet specimens - Keith was a well known dealer and collector for decades before retiring recently. While not the biggest or the most classic color, this is gorgeous and in fact a more rare color. Valued $1500-1800
