Item Description

These are some of my favorite Mimetites. They remind me of Tsumeb in terms of color, gemminess and luster, but they are distinctively textbook in terms of their prismatic hexagonal habit. These pieces come from the Guatomo Mine in Thailand and were only on the market for a short time in the mid 1990s. This small cabinet specimen hosts fine quality, sharp, very lustrous, rich golden-yellow to soft straw-yellow colored, hexagonal crystals measuring up to 4.5 mm sitting on contrasting oxidized matrix. The majority of the crystals are in very good shape, but there are a few with some interrupted / incomplete growth. Not a lot of actual damage, but not all of the crystals are completely terminated. Very fun to view with a loupe or under the microscope. It should be noted that this locality was referred to as "Hat Yai" for years, but this is not correct.
