Item Description
Collected in 1969 by Benny Fenn, from a one-time find at a small prospect not even worthy of the name "Mine", this was in the end a oneshot deal. It was a small prospect, not even a developing mine, that never panned out. And despite attempts to find another mimetite pocket, no more ever came out after one load in 1969 that was sold off at the Tucson show of that year. Here you have a superbly, 3-dimensional specimen- a vertical tower of light gossan matrix coated by sparkling balls of botryoidal mimetite. The coverage is complete all around except for a thin line of contact on the backside of the specimen, perhaps 10% of the diameter. The color is a very intense orangey-yellow hue, what I would call top for the find. The piece is pristine except for small contacts around the drapery at the base, and one single broke botryoid on the left side as I display it (totally inconsequential in context, and at a good price). Specimens of this size and quality have recently sold for $2500-5000 from a number of dealers. I just got this one in a lucky bulk deal, and can afford to put it out to auction. It is a super example. These seem to go up in value every year, to the point where one that sold for $200 in the old days just sold for 200k in modern times. But even smaller ones, have seen this kind of appreciation. They are beautiful, and unique. I cannot rave enough about this piece, which I value at $3000
