Mimetite

Mimetites of this robust size and color quality are just difficult to find; and this is a large crystal set on a smaller one that gives it a certain elegance. Mimetites from Tsumeb, are considered by many to be the world's finest crystals for the species. The superb luster, great color, sharp edges and size of this crystal, along with being perched on another Mimetite, make for a fantastic miniature! The main crystal is a full 3 cm in length by 1 cm in width and exhibits a distinct yellow color! The top two-thirds of the crystal is a translucent yellow and the bottom third, along with the back are moderately included with another, fine-grained mineral (possibly a manganese oxide?). There is another, 1 cm, sidecar crystal sticking out at almost a right angle to the larger one near its base. The big crystals also sits on a parallel grouping of included, dark mimetite crystals. All of the Mimetites on this piece have tremendous luster! A choice and elegant specimen from old workings here.
