Item Description
Unusual and stunning thumbnail specimen hosting a 1.5 x 1.1 x 0.7 cm "split" sphere of red mimetite on host rock, like no other specimen of this species we have ever seen. Nothing else like this: The only such sphere found in years of visiting the mine with permission of owners, and helping and assisting in digs and marketing, it remains unique. The mine is now closed, or at least on much reduced capacity of production. Self-collected by Alex Schauss circa 2015 in underground workings at the Rowley mine, western slope of the Painted Rock Mountains, overlooking the Dendora Valley, 4 miles west of the old Theba railroad depot, Painted Rock District, Maricopa County, Arizona.
