Item Description

This is a hugely important locality specimen of millerite from a classic African locality, from old workings. It shows off a striking, symmetrical, 5.2 cm wide fan-like spray of iridescent brassy acicular millerite crystals with an adjacent 3.0 cm spray . These dramatically dominate this impressive and colorful specimen from this obscure and poorly-developed nickel deposit in South Africa (MINDAT). Rich coatings of green secondary nickel minerals, Annabergite, or perhaps also Zaratite are a super contrast and accessory on the blocky calcite on serpentinite matrix. There is another 5.5 cm millerite spray visible on the sawed back, as a bonus. The piece displays well without aid. Classic, uncommon and choice old-time combination material from the locale.
