Item Description

A rarely seen specimen from near the village of Mokopane (formerly Potgietersrus until 2003) in Limpopo, South Africa. In fact, this is the FIRST specimen that we've ever had to offer from this locality, and if you collect sulfides or oddball locality specimens, do not let this one get away, as I doubt we'll have another one anytime soon. The piece features an attractive radial "spray" of bronze colored Millerite measuring 3.3 cm at its longest dimension beautifully set atop the underlying matrix. A smaller secondary "spray" of Millerite can be seen on the side of the piece. The surface of some of the crystals has started to alter to Zaratite, a green nickel carbonate, which has a slightly "greasy" luster. A really cool locality specimen, incredibly hard to find on the market. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. The piece is accompanied by a label from noted rarities dealer Josef Vajdak.
