Item Description
The Saranovskii (Sarany) chrome deposit has produced some of the finest specimens of minerals like Uvarovite Garnet and chromium-bearing Titanite, but Millerite is notably rare from this locality, and we've only had a few of these specimens to offer over the years. This piece is certainly one of the best we've seen in terms of size and quality as it features attractive free-standing, metallic, light golden colored prismatic crystals of Millerite measuring up to 3.1 cm long sitting atop rhombic, translucent, grey-white Calcite matrix. The Millerites have formed attractive "sprays", which are partially included inside of the Calcite. The Millerites are also notably thick and sturdy, not fragile "needles" like from some other world localities. I haven't seen larger Millerites that this from Saranovskii, and this piece would make a great addition to any miniature suite, a sulfide collection or a suite of Russian minerals. Priced at $1,750 in our inventory. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#483RU), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
