Item Description

A classic and showy combination specimen from the famous Valenciana Mine at Guanajuato. Glassy, yellow-green hexagonal Milarite crystals, to about 6 mm, are nicely scattered on the sculptural matrix plate. Milarite is a rare hydrated complex Be-silicate, a member of the Osumilite Group and related to Sugilite. The matrix consists of Adularia (K-feldspar) variety Valencianite (namesake locality) and Quartz points. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7095 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the 1973 MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Classic and excellent two-sided combination material from this famous and historic silver mine.
