Miguelromeroite (rare arsenate) R.D. Mushlitz Coll.

Item Description

This obscure old copper-silver mine has produced an unusually large number of arsenic species. This piece was originally sold as Roselite after its discovery by Terry Szenics, and later many similar specimens were also sold as Villyaellenite from the Veta Negra Mine. These specimens were only much later identified as Miguelromeroite (IMA2008-066) in 2009. Miguelromeroite is a very rare complex hydrated Mn-arsenate and is named after the famous Mexico collector, Dr. Miguel Romero. It is a member of the Hureaulite Group. A 3.7 cm vug in the triangular blocky matrix is filled with sparkly, vivid pink gemmy microcrystals. The piece is from a 1997 find by Terry Szenics! Ex R.D. Mushlitz Collection.
