Item Description
Superb and important small cabinet twin of uncommon Microcline var. Hyalophane from this obscure locality in Bosnia and Herzegovina - Zagradski Potok. This locality has easily produced the world's finest examples of the species. The sharp, stout, 3-dimensional, well-formed V-twin is very glassy and lustrous, transparent to translucent and is mostly colorless. The front is included with Chlorite, Hematite and VERY RARE tiny, golden Rutile needles are scattered about. Green Chlorite covers part of the back of the piece. MINDAT does NOT list Rutile or Hematite for the locale, but the Mineralogical Record article describes both species from the locale. The front and right side are pristine on this striking crystal. Partial contacting on the left side is out-of-sight in the excellent and primary frontal display view. See the 1996 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 27, No. 5. Formerly in the David New Collection, a well-known dealer. Ex Robert Nowakowski Collection No. RN94, a well-known Midwestern USA collector. Feldspars seldom get as gemmy and glassy as these exceptional Hyalophane crystals. RARELY on the market today. Valued at $2000 for superb crystal form, size, color, rarity - these are not generally on the market in this quality.
