Item Description
There are many excellent minerals found in the vast pegmatite localities in Minas Gerais, Brazil, but Amazonite is not commonly seen. This blue-green variety of Microcline is probably best known from the Pikes Peak Region of Colorado historically, and even from Ethiopia in contemporary times, but the pieces from the Santa Maria de Itabira mine hold their own in terms of color and crystallization, though they are seldom seen on the market. This piece features a sharp, well-formed, lustrous, blocky, strong blue-green colored crystal of Amazonite with minor attached white Albite (var: Cleavelandite) and minor Quartz on the back. The front of the specimen is in good shape, but the back of the piece is contacted where it was separated from the pocket wall. If you're a feldspar collector or a fan of Brazilian minerals, this is a cool locality specimen to add to your collection.
