Item Description

Brazil is one of the richest mineral-producing nations in the world, particularly its pegmatites. There has been an abundance of excellent minerals from Minas Gerais, over the years, but Amazonite is not commonly seen. This blue-green variety of Microcline is probably best known from the Pikes Peak Region of Colorado historically, and even from Ethiopia in contemporary times, but the pieces from the Santa Maria de Itabira mine hold their own in terms of color and crystallization, though they are seldom seen on the market. This piece features a sharp, well-formed, lustrous, blocky, strong blue-green colored crystal of Amazonite free of matrix. The front of the specimen is in good shape, but the back of the piece is contacted where it was separated from the pocket wall. If you're a feldspar collector or a fan of Brazilian minerals, this is a cool locality specimen to add to your collection.
