Item Description

A beautiful display quality specimen of these wonderful Amazonites from Ethiopia which first started to show up on the market in the early 2000s. The first pieces I can remember seeing were imported by Rock Currier (Jewel Tunnel), and almost nothing has been available for several years at this point. Ethiopia certainly was an unlikely source for mineral specimens at the time, as nobody had seen anything like them from any African locality in the past. They compare favorably to the famous Amazonite crystals from around the Pikes Peak Batholith in Colorado in terms of crystal form and color, but they were fairly short-lived and now are fairly hard to find on the market. This piece is a wonderful example of these beautiful specimens, as it host fine, good-sized, blocky smooth, sharp, well-formed crystal measuring 5.6 cm with a classic blue-green color measuring up sitting on off-white colored Albite matrix. A few additional Amazonites can be seen as well for a nice touch. No damage I can find anywhere, save the back where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. If you missed out on these years ago, this is a good opportunity to pick up a great example of these fine quality Amazonite specimens for your collection. Valued $3,500.
From the collection of Jack Halpern No. 3395. Jack was born May 18, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, but has been a long-time resident of San Francisco. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the world encompassing over 3,200 specimens with a specific emphasis on color, quality, and style/aesthetics, which is evident in every piece. He admired specimens of all sizes from thumbnails to large cabinets and the vast majority of them rank from fine to world-class in their quality.
Above all else, Jack is considered to be the greatest gentleman in the modern era of mineral collecting. He is beloved by all those who have met him, and he truly is one of the most iconic figures in the mineral world. We recently acquired Jack's collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality pieces for their collections. We are honored to have the opportunity to offer Jack's treasures to everyone on a regular basis in the auctions.
