Item Description

In the early 2000s, we started seeing these beautiful Amazonite crystals on the market, which were first imported by Rock Currier (Jewel Tunnel) from Ethiopia. It certainly was an unlikely source for mineral specimens at the time, as nobody had seen anything like them from Ethiopia in the past. They compare favorably to the famous Amazonite crystals from around the Pikes Peak Batholith in Colorado in terms of crystal form and color, but they were fairly short-lived and now are fairly hard to find on the market. This piece is a wonderful example of these beautiful specimens, as it host fine, smooth, sharp, well-formed crystals with a classic blue-green color measuring up to 3.6 cm, sitting on off-white colored Albite var: Cleavelandite matrix. There is a thin "crack" running through a portion of the specimen, which was naturally caused due to tectonic action from within the pocket. If you missed out on these years ago, this is a good opportunity to pick up a good overall piece of these lovely Amazonite specimens for your collection.
From the worldwide mineral collection of geologist, Demetrius Pohl (#2184).
