Microcline var: Amazonite

The Pikes Peak region in Colorado is almost certainly the most productive area for fine crystals of Amazonite in the world. This blue-green variety of Microcline is found in many localities, but the top Colorado specimens occupy the highest tier of quality and beauty. This is an older piece dating back at least 50 years, and comes from Crystal Peak. It features few sharp, well-formed, blocky, prismatic crystals of Amazonite with a classic green-blue color, and no matrix. The faces are all smooth and defined, and outside of a "rub" on the side of the piece, it's in superb condition. The piece is completely UN-repaired, which is not common for this material, especially in larger crystals. Valued $950. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
