Microcline, Schorl, and Beryl var. Aquamarine

Item Description

A colorful cabinet-sized combination specimen from the Erongo Mountains consisting of Microcline, Schorl and Aquamarine. This imposing cabinet specimen consists of blocky, white, etched Microcline crystals averaging 3 cm in size interspersed with contrasting, jet-black, barrel-shaped Schorl crystals of similar size accented with slender, gemmy sky-blue Aquamarine crystals up to a few centimeters in length. Many of the Scorl crystals are reclined on the piece and show their double-ended terminations with disparate character. One end exhibits a pyramidal termination of three faces often typical of Tourmaline and the other end is quite distinct with hundreds of hair-like Schorl fibers in parallel orientation extending from that end. This feature is uncommon in Tourmaline, but can be prevalent at some Erongo localities. The texture certainly adds interest to the piece. Many of the Schorl crystal also have a partial or selective "frost" of whitish Kaolinite on them for added interest. Maybe a dozen slender transparent to slightly translucent Aquamarine crystals are interspersed with the Microcline and Schorl crystals sticking vertically out from between them and many instances bridging them. A very contrasting (and LARGE) pegmatite piece!
