Item Description
This is a notably hard to find crystal group of Microcline from the Long Hill prospects (Turkey Hill prospects) in Haddam, Connecticut. It should be noted that the piece is labeled as Albite, but it's clearly Microcline based upon the thick blocky triclinic form. The group shows sharp, well-formed, smooth faces on the front/display side. The piece has a very faint bluish hue underneath the lighter beige exterior color. The back of the piece is incomplete, but it's still in good shape on the front. If you're a feldspar collector or a fan of New England minerals, don't miss out on this hard to find specimen from this lesser-known locale in Haddam. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #2928CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
