Item Description
This material used to be a valid species called Pinite, but is now classified as pseudomorphs of either Mica or clay minerals replacing various silicates, i.e., Spodumene, Nepheline, Scapolite and Cordierite. This piece is a textbook, fine quality, great old time example of the hard to find "Pinites" from Litchfield, Connecticut. the crystal is notably sharp for the material, showing excellent crystal form of the original Cordierite which has been replaced by golden-brown Mica. The piece is not 100% complete, but it's still in amazingly good condition. Perhaps the best aspect of the piece is the fact is that it comes with a classic old label from A. E. Foote attached to base of the crystal! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5637). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
