Item Description
A wonderful, old-time display specimen from the historic Kutna Hora District in the Czech Republic. This piece features the rare silver sulfosalt, Miargyrite in the form of metallic, dark reddish-black colored modified crystals, associated with Pyrite on Quartz matrix. The largest crystal measures about 4 mm. Miargyrite is part of the "Ruby Silver Group" and fairly rare in comparison to Pyrargyrite or Proustite. The piece is in great condition, and looks best under magnification. This is the ONLY specimen we've ever had to offer from the St. Antonín de Padua Adit (Shaft), and it comes with a label from the well-known rarities and Czech/Slovak dealer, Josef Vajdak (Pequa Rare Minerals) stating that it was mined in the 1920s. The piece is also accompanied by an old label from an unknown collection. A wonderful, rare locality specimen for anybody who collects European classics, sulfosalts, or specifically "Ruby Silver" species. Valued years ago at $300, but certainly much more in today's market for eye-visible crystals on matrix in a small cabinet sized display specimen.
From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
