Item Description

A very attractive and classic specimen of chalk white Meyerhofferite forming sharp, distinctive pseudomorphs after preexisting Inyoite from the famous Mt. Blanco Mine in Death Valley. This is a relatively large and a very sharp, aesthetic example of this rare replacement. The largest crystal measures 3.4 cm on its longest dimension. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed 3x5 index card label from Wulff that states the piece was personally collected by the legendary field collector, Edwin Over, who was also one of the founding members of the CSMS with men like Wulff, Lazard Cahn and George White. A wonderfully historic and eye-catching specimen from this well known old time material.
