Item Description
This is a polished section of the Seymchan meteorite, a pallasite meteorite, which according to Wikipedia was, "found in the dry bed of the river Hekandue, a left tributary of river Yasachnaya in the Magadan district, Russia, near the settlement of Seymchan, in June 1967" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seymchan_(meteorite) ), but this particular piece came from a more recent find in 2004. This specimen weighs 16.6 grams and features rich golden patches of Forsterite (Olivine) which can be seen when the piece is backlit, sitting among metallic silvery Iron var: Kamacite. I found one specimen online that mentions the black material is Magnesiochromite, and there is dark metallic bronze Troilite (iron sulfide), but I cannot say for certain if it is present on this piece. I've seen some people label these piece as containing "Space Peridot", but it's not really green enough to call it Peridot. A really cool example of these beautiful and elusive meteorites, which I'm told are supposed to be rust-resistant and stable. From the private collection of Angela Kosnar.
