Item Description

Please note that this specimen was originally labeled as Keystoneite from the McAlpine Mine in California, with an old label from the Cureton Mineral Company, stating it was analyzed by XRD (see https://www.mindat.org/1K0-A21). Further testing by Alfredo Petrov on this specimen in 2022 via Raman Spectroscopy showed it is actually Metacinnabar, most likely from the Getchell Mine in Nevada, which would be a tremendous rarity, as we've never had one to offer before from this locality. There are several pages of analysis accompanying the piece, and the Rock Currier collection label has some annotations, including a note that the yellow mineral is Metavoltine, although there is a hand-written note with the piece (clearly in Alfredo Petrov's handwriting), that says the yellow mineral is actually Rozenite. With that said, it's a remarkably rare specimen from this classic locality, and a must have for any fan of rarities or minerals from the Getchell Mine. We've done our best to illustrate the tiny crystals with the micro photos. A very interesting and certainly unusual specimen that you're not likely to find anywhere else on the market.
From the collection of the beloved mineral dealer and collector Rock H. Currier (1940-2015) who was the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports. Collection #8813. Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
