Metacinnabar is EXTREMELY RARE from any of the former mercury mines in the New Idria District. Sharp, lustrous metallic-gray crystals cover the rich mounded thumbnail matrix, that includes underlying red cinnabar. A choice and RARE combination specimen from the Kay Robertson Collection # 4298. The piece was collected by dealer Scott Williams and was given to Kay as a gift, according to her label. Probably from the New Idria Mine. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A MUST for the California or species collector.
