Messelite (rare phosphate, huge xls)

Messelite is an uncommon hydrous, calcium, iron, manganese phosphate and the best of species only occurs at this location from a small pocket found over a decade ago, in the early 2000s. This is exceptional for the species, from a find Rod Tyson made on one of his crazy adventurous helicopter trips into the back country. Glassy and gemmy orangey brown siderite crystals, to 3 mm across, underlie lustrous greenish gray botryoids of messelite, to 1 cm across. So it is rare, and composed nicely. These are huge and important crystals for the locality! I bought this from Rod at the time, long ago, and it was lost in our warehouse for awhile. It was one of the great ones. Valued $800-1000
