Item Description
A striking and RARE mesolite specimen from this classic Italian zeolite locality, where collecting is now prohibited. Two dramatically intergrown sprays of lustrous, pearlescent, ivory-colored lathes cover the front of this rich sculptural specimen. The lathes reach 5.0 cm on this impressive piece. MINDAT does not list mesolite for the locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2918 and acquired from Willard Perkin in April, 1963. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Undoubtedly old material, but no proof.
