Item Description
Mellite is classified as an organic mineral (Aluminium mellitate {benzene hexacarboxylate} hydrate), despite the fact that the definition of a mineral is an IN-organic compound, but I digress. Mellite is arguably the most well-known of the organic minerals, and specimens from Hungary are the best around. This rough and cut set features a classic bipyramidal tetragonal crystal of Mellite with sharp and lustrous faces. This is a rare mineral, only found in about 12 places in the world, and this particular piece is a classic specimen from this historic locality. The matching stone is a wonderful golden-orange color "Kite" cut gem with excellent clarity. You don't see many gems of Mellite in the world, especially with this color. A very worthwhile set of this well-known material.
