Item Description

Quite uncommon (nine localities worldwide - most of which come from Hungary), this is a fine crystal cluster of the unique, strangely organic-based mineral Mellite. These are an Aluminum mellitate (benzene hexacarboxylate) hydrate, a rare secondary mineral in lignite deposits. The medium-brown crystals, up to 1.3 cm on edge, are translucent and partially gemmy, with excellent luster and sharp form. Good blue-white fluorescence. Formerly in the Herb Obodda Collection. A superb large thumbnail specimen of this rarity.
