Item Description

Mcgovernite, an ultra-rare rare arsenate, is unique in the world to the Sterling Mine of New Jersey. Mcgovernite is also the mineral species with the largest number of atoms in the unit cell. This rich and excellent combination specimen features a rich vein at one end of lustrous, bronzy-brown crystal plates of mcgovernite. Crystals reach 8 mm. Mcgovernite usually occurs as thin coatings or as radiating spherical sprays of crystals. This extreme rarity is very well crystallized for the species. The matrix is rose-red willemite (neon-green fluorescence) with franklinite. Ex Art Soregaroli Collection.
