Item Description

This very rare hydrated / hydroxy lead iron zinc arsenate was first disovered at the Kintore opencut, Broken Hill, NSW, Australia. It was named after Sir Maurice Alan Edgar Mawby (1904-1977), a memorable figure in the Australian minerals industry. It's actually the monoclinic dimorph of Carminite, and a member of the Tsumcorite group, which includes all of the various Lotharmeyerite and Tsumcorite species. This piece features micro brownish-red Mawbyite associated with micro yellow Mimetite on matrix. Extremely hard to find on the market. Ex Paolo Matioli Collection.
