Item Description
This material really only comes from one area in the world, but it is truly some of the most gorgeous opaque material out there. It looks like Jade, and although it is found near the famous Jade mining area of Tawmaw in Burma, the two gems do not have much in the way of a chemical relationship. Maw Sit Sit is a combination of a handful of different minerals, it is actually a byproduct of the Jade mining process. It is also much more rare than Jade on a worldwide level. The main constituent of the material is Kosmochlor, a sodium chromium pyroxene previously called "Ureyite". The other components of Maw Sit Sit are Chromian Jadeite which makes up approximately 15 percent of Maw Sit Sit, plus Chromian Eckermannite - a chromium-enriched sodium, magnesium, iron amphibole group mineral, which makes a small contribution of only about 4 percent of Maw Sit Sit, and finally Chromian Albite - a chromium-enriched albite usual constitutes 1 per cent of the material. This "Oval Cabochon" cut stone has the typical rich green color with black streaks like so many of these stones from this area. It is a beautiful stone, and very highly valued on the market today.
