Item Description
A significant and important historical combination specimen of Maucherite from the Type Locality in Germany. Maucherite is a nickel-arsenic metallic alloy arsenide. A well-placed crust of greasy luster black pitchblende (which has some uraninite within) partially obscures a vein of silvery metallic Maucherite embedded in the densely integrown bladed orange baryte matrix plate. The vein is more prominent on the edges. Maucherite is named after the well-known Munich mineral dealer, Wilhelm Maucher (1879-1930). He formerly taught at the Freiburg Mining Academy. See the Mineralogical Record Biographic Archive at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/maucherwilhelm/. This is a rich, interesting specimen. Maucherite was discovered by Maucher in 1906 and named for him in 1917. Comes with an old Maucher dealership label. Formerly in the Rob Woodside Collection. Ex Greg Peterson Collection. Hefty for its size at 211 grams mass.
