Matrix Pyrite "Sun" in shale

Matrix pyrite "suns" are rare, as it is much easier to pop these off of the shale matrix, rather than excavate the shale. They are ususally circular and amoeboid-shaped ones like this 8.3 cm disk are very uncommon. This one has nifty golden and bronzey, chatoyant iridescence. The radial appearance of the sculptural pyrite is very interesting. This is an exceptional, large and pristine matrix specimen for the find.
