Old-time phosgenite specimens from the Monteponi Mine are a European classic. An impresssive, stout, terminated, well-striated 4.3 cm, galena-included crystal dominates the vug filled with gemmy amber and included crystals in hefty galena matrix on this rich and showy piece. The pristine gemmy crystal is 1.9 cm across. This excellent old-time classic is from the Fioravanti Collection, who obtained this in an exchange with the Rome Geological Museum in 1960. See the excellent article in the November-December, 2014, Vol. 45, # 6 issue of the Mineralogical Record. A well-trimmed, fine cabinet specimen, this should be valued in the $1500-2500 range bsaed on what has been for sale at the Munich show recently.
