A 1.7 cm, faceted gem-like, doubly terminated Herkimer quartz "diamond" is aesthetically set in a vug lined with sparkly iron oxide-infused drusy quartz crystals on the dramatically sculptural matrix wedge. Matrix Herkimer "diamond" specimens are rare because the crystals commonly break off matrix during collecting, as the matrix is usually very hard. The sculptural quality of this uncommon matrix piece and the placement of the isolated, gem-like Herkimer make this a very fine, rare, highly representative specimen.
