Item Description

Matrix Herkimer quartz "diamond" specimens are rare because the crystals commonly break off matrix during collecting, as the matrix is usually very hard. This is, indeed, a most striking and aesthetic combination. A 9.0 cm, very glassy, doubly terminated crystal is dramatically impaled on the slab of sandstone matrix. The crystal looks faceted with all of the many faces and one tip is water-clear, gem. The interior veils add character. This impressive piece is beautifully accented by the 2.8 cm, doubly terminated, complex, amber rhomb with rounded faces and the scattered sprinkling of small, sharp, pastel-pink dolomite rhombs. One tip of the crystal is contacted with embedded dolomite crystals and matrix, but has no damage, per se. The out-of-sight contacting on the back side of the crystal also has no damage. This outstanding, rare and essentially pristine combination specimen is from a nearby, less well-known New York locale. Valued at $2500 by the former dealer who had it last, due to the pristine condition and rare combination. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!! RARE in this quality.
