Item Description

Massicot in uncommon lead oxide and is very rare from any Nevada locality. The Fioravanti label lists this piece as being from Mineral County, but MINDAT does not list the species for the county. This piece appears to be an extremely rare combination piece of four species from an obscure locality in Clark County, as it is the only Nevada locality with all four species apparently found on this piece. The hefty matrix is microcrystalline galena. Colorful, reddish-orange cinnabar covers the sculptural crest of the piece. Orpiment-yellow crusts of massicot are noted on the ledge below the cinnabar, scattered elsewhere on the front and also on the back. The rich field of scintillating, tan, microcrytalline rhombs on the front appears to be smithsonite. Giancarlo Fioravanti obtained this in a trade from the Palumbo Collection in 1964. Hefty and rich ore for the size at 236 grams. A must for the species or locality collector. Value??
