Item Description
Marshite is a very rare copper iodide species, only found in about a dozen places in the world (mostly in Australia). The species was named after C. W. Marsh, who discovered the species and studied minerals in New South Wales going back to the 1890s. This piece is a fairly rich and fine quality example of Martite featuring dozens of superb quality, micro crystals of silvery-beige colored octahedral Martite associated with what I believe to be reddish colored Stolzite (or possibly just iron coated Martite?) crystals on oxidized matrix. The crystals are very difficult to see without magnification, but they are beautiful up close. If you collect rarities, minerals from the type locality, or specifically Broken Hill material, don't miss out on this attractive and very hard to find specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9010). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
