Item Description
A fantastic, UNIQUE, curved marcasite stalactite with a hook from this obscure old Illinois lead-zinc mine. Mineral specimens of any type are rare from the Bautsch Mine. The sparkly nubby brassy patina really adds pizzazz to this rarity. The Galena District furnished most of the lead for the American Civil War 1861-1865. The heyday was prior to 1900, but some mines operated intermittently into the 1940 or 50s. Ex Boise Murphy and Jimmie DuFoe Collections. Valued by the former dealer at $1000 for rarity and striking form.
